Did You Know The Famous Kokrebellur Bird Territory is Just 3 Km From Our Farm in Madduru?
It's not like a typical sanctuary and here's why this place has to be in your adventure list: Village folks who live here have developed deep bonding with the the Spotbilled Pelicans (and other birds) and they treat them like their own family members. They will tell you these birds are like daughters to them — coming all the way to their little village in Madduru to nest around Nov and fly back with their hatchlings around June. Village folks also make use of bird droppings as a manure which is rich in Phosphorus and Potassium.
The two main species found there, Painted Stork and Spotbilled Pelicans are in the "Near Threatened Category". Aside from these two rockstars, several other bird species are found here like Little Cormorant, Black Ibis, Grey Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Indian pond heron etc.
The best time to visit would be Nov to June.
It's been two months and most (of them) have arrived. When are you coming? 🙂
